It’s been a year now since you went ahead, but it didn’t really feel like you’re gone.
The last time we spoke on the phone, all I heard was your hard breathing—few of the last ones left.
Your physical body may no longer be here with us, but now I know you’ve been watching over us.
You visited me once in my dream, and I thank you for letting me know you’re at peace.
And even in my dream, you remain a man of few words.
You simply said you’re watching over us—your children, grandchildren and mama.
It’s good to be reminded that you’re in a much better place now, Daddy.
For when you appeared in my dream, I saw no worries on your face.
You still have that typical firm look, barely smiling but looking all contented.
Daddy, you’re also in our thoughts and prayers, forever thanking God for the life you’ve lived.
Yes, life may have been harsh on us while you’re still alive, but the past doesn’t really matter now.
I am thankful for those tough and difficult times of growing up back home.
They seem to be all ‘imperfections’ back then. But the truth is, they’re actually not.
Looking back, I realized how perfect these ‘imperfections’ are in helping us understand and appreciate life much better.
For that reason, I remain thankful for whatever comes our way—blessings and trials alike!
Don’t worry, Daddy. The good memories shall remain, including those words of advice you’ve left behind.
You said to never ever talk back to our elders no matter how right we think we are. And I do respect that.
I also remember how trustful you were of people, believing that integrity still reigns in people’s heart. And I do hope so.
In all these, what I really wanted to say is that you’re not forgotten, Daddy.
We love you very much, and your children and grandchildren love you too.
Do rest in peace in the presence of our Creator… and till we meet again!
